The 2013 John Fries Memorial Prize was won by Jess Olivieri and Hayley Forward for their collaborative video work Harlequins Vs Visitors which the judges described as directly reflecting the spirit of the Prize.

The 2012 prize attracted the largest number of entries yet. Poblocki described 2012 as a “bold exhibition showcasing artworks that comment on issues relevant to the contemporary society in which we live”. In a ‘no holds barred’ approach,the twenty artists presented a fresh and sometimes fun aesthetic. Each artist was exploratory within their chosen medium and fearless in the topics they navigated.

The John Fries Memorial Prize 2011 exhibition of fifteen finalists exposes the diverse cross section of mediums being engaged by current emerging artists. Including painting, glass, porcelain, photography, sculpture and video this exhibition also presents works of interaction through site-specific and responsive installations involving robotics, touch, movement and sound.

The inaugural John Fries Memorial Prize presents the work of sixteen artists working across a range of media, encompassing painting, drawing, video, sculpture, design and photography. Each of the finalists brings a unique perspective to concerns ranging from the environment and the representation of history to formal investigations into technique, skill and material.
