Shannon Te Ao is an artist based in Wellington, New Zealand working predominantly within performance and video-based practices. Shannon’s works address aspects of colonial trauma while reflecting on universal human refrains of love, loss and connection. Read more

Dr Mikala Tai is the director of 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney. As a curator, researcher and academic specialising in contemporary Asian art, she has collaborated with local, national, and international organisations to strengthen ties between Australia and Asia. Read more

Interdisciplinary artist Consuelo Cavaniglia is Curator and Judge for the John Fries Award 2017 and 2018. She has exhibited nationally and over the last 15 years she has worked across a range of roles in contemporary art spaces, universities, regional art centres and artist-led spaces. Read more

Kath Fries is a Sydney-based artist, daughter of the late John Fries and Chair of the John Fries Award. Her practice explores how our senses are entangled with our (im)material surroundings. She creates multi-sensory works for conventional gallery spaces and temporal site-responsive installations in heritage/rural sites. Read more
